Problem Statement

The transition to college is a big lifestyle change for most students, resulting in greater freedom to choose how they live their life. One such freedom that students are granted is that of food. In college students are capable of deciding not only what to eat, but also how much to consume and when. These decisions can be quite challenging especially if one doesn’t have a lot of nutritional knowledge or the cuisine differs greatly from what they are used to. College is also often the first time students have to plan their budgets according to their eating preferences.

We envision an app that could help students understand their nutritional needs, track their eating habits and plan their budget effectively.

My Role

My main role in this project was to conduct user research for need finding, rapid prototype and create UI elements for the high fidelity prototype using React.

My first task was to create a survey to asses student needs, learn more about their current habits and see whether there was a need for a solution. Some sample questions were:

Student’s responses to “Have you ever run out of (university food money) before the semester ends?”

Student’s responses to “Have you ever run out of (university food money) before the semester ends?”

Student responses to “Do you currently use any apps/website to track your nutrition?”

Student responses to “Do you currently use any apps/website to track your nutrition?”

Then I wrote down ALL the features we wanted our app to have and designed low fidelity prototypes to capture what that would look like.

Finally I worked on creating more high fidelity visual prototypes on pages and then also helped with implementing some of the UI elements in React.
